1. Coastal-Marine Grade Specification Criteria
Miami coastal-marine grade specification for exterior facade and continuous-water-contact application requires three verified attributes.
Water absorption. Below 0.4 percent for facade and exterior vertical application; below 0.3 percent for pool coping, waterfront patio and continuous-water-contact application. Verified at the quarry stage with ASTM C97 water absorption testing documentation. Above these thresholds, moisture migration through the panel drives long-term surface degradation including efflorescence, spalling and crystallization damage.
Salt spray resistance. Dense structural composition rather than porous surface structure. Salt spray corrosion at Miami Beach direct-ocean elevation runs continuously at concentrations well above inland baseline; porous surface structures accumulate salt deposition, drive freeze-thaw microcracking (though limited in Miami's climate versus northern coastal specification) and drive long-term surface pitting. Dense-composition natural stone with tested salt spray resistance profile is the specified selection for Miami waterfront.
UV pigmentation depth. Color intrinsic to the stone volume rather than surface treatment. Sustained Florida UV exposure — 300+ high-UV days per year — bleaches surface-only pigmentation, drives color drift and reads as material fatigue across the specification service life. Turkish white marble with intrinsic pigmentation depth maintains color stability under sustained UV exposure without surface refinishing.
