Where are the onyx production regions in Türkiye?
The center of Turkish onyx production is Eastern Anatolia: the Elazığ region is the historical production corridor for Honey, Dark and Green Onyx. The Antalya region is recognized for white translucent onyx (White Onyx); Antalya port proximity is an export advantage. The Afyon-İscehisar region complements its travertine production with mid-segment Honey and Caramel onyx. Erzurum, Bitlis and Diyarbakır surroundings are complementary sources. Turkish onyx export covers a significant share of the world market; alongside Iran, Pakistan and Mexico, Türkiye is a leading supplier.
What is the position of Turkish onyx in the international market?
Turkish onyx is one of the three major sources of the world luxury accent-stone market alongside Iranian Honey Onyx and Pakistani onyx. Turkish Honey Onyx, as a classic amber translucent class, is used in European, GCC, US and Far East luxury projects as an alternative to Italian Alabaster and Iranian Honey Onyx. Turkish onyx production is promoted at the US Coverings fair and the Italian Marmomac fair; Sipahi is positioned in these international markets with İMİB Registry 336480 membership.
How is an onyx backlit panel system built?
An onyx backlit panel — a 2 cm or 3 cm onyx slab with an LED lighting system mounted behind it diffuses light softly through the stone's translucent texture. Technical measures: (a) LED strip spacing 10-15 cm with close spots recommended — homogeneous light diffusion; (b) a 3-5 cm ventilation gap for heat dissipation; (c) LED color temperature 2700-3500K for a classic warm atmosphere, 4000K for a modern white; (d) the onyx panel's back surface is reinforced with filled resin — reducing breakage risk. Shop drawing detail is coordinated by Sipahi.
Where should onyx not be used?
Onyx is historically not suitable for exterior facades — water absorption is relatively high, there is breakage risk under freeze-thaw cycles, and UV light can cause color change over time. It is also unsuitable for high-traffic flooring — abrasion resistance is lower than marble and granite. Onyx is typically used for interior accent walls, bar tops, kitchen island counters (luxury villa), bathroom wall panels and backlit panel applications. Protective sealer is mandatory for wet areas.
Are samples and block photos important in the onyx ordering process?
Very important. Because onyx is a natural stone, each block has unique veining and color — two blocks are never identical. For prestige projects (backlit panel + bookmatch accent walls) the client first approves color/texture with 15x15 or 30x30 cm samples; final design is then confirmed with 60x120 or 80x160 cm trade panels. For mega-prestige projects (luxury villa + boutique hotel) a photo report of the specific block is submitted for client approval; block reservation is arranged. Sipahi coordinates the photo-report + shop-drawing process with producer contacts.
How is onyx cut-to-size CNC work handled?
Sipahi does not have its own CNC workshop. Onyx cut-to-size needs (long-form bar tops, kitchen-island specific dimensions, special bathroom panel cuts, backlit panel sizing) are coordinated at fabrication partner CNC workshops. Shop drawings are prepared → CNC work is performed at a partner workshop → the product arrives at the Adapazarı Tekeler supply coordination center → dimensional tolerance, surface quality, color homogeneity and bookmatch symmetry are re-inspected by Sipahi → shipment. This is the prestige quality-control model.
What is the minimum export quantity and quotation process?
The minimum economic onyx export quantity varies: for large panel needs (10+ panels), one full 20' container (~400-600 m² of 2 cm onyx); for mid-sized prestige villas, 50-150 m² half-container; small bar top accents can be handled as LCL (part-container) shipments. Quotation process: WhatsApp/email project info (variety, panel size and quantity, backlit system detail) → written offer within 24-48 hours → samples + trade panels shipped → client approval → shop drawings → block photo approval → fabrication-partner CNC → Adapazarı final inspection → shipment.
Can Turkish onyx be used in LEED projects?
Yes. Turkish onyx can be included in submittal files for MR (Materials & Resources) credits under LEED v4/v4.1 with proper product evidence. Supply from producer lines holding EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is prioritized; quarry-producer-Adapazarı-site Chain-of-Custody records are attached to project files. Because onyx is a small-volume accent application, LEED contribution may be limited; however, it is included for prestige positioning. Detailed sustainability requirements should be specified at project kickoff.
